SEOUL, Sept 28 - South Korea has resumed limited pork exports to Japan for the first tim in five years, after its neighbour banned the trade after outbreaks of foot-and-mouth and hog cholera diseases in Korea, the Korean government said on Monday.

The local government on the island of Jeju said in a press release that 67 farms would ship a combined 21 tonnes of frozen meat, worth about 120 million won ($100,600), to Tokyo by October 2.

Pork exports from the island had been stalled since the diseases hit its pig farms in 2004, while the Korean peninsula stopped exports in 2001 as a result of disease outbreaks there. The ban on pork exports to Japan from the Korean peninsula remains in effect. ($1=1192.8 Won)
