Unilever recalls Slim-Fast products in the US

Unilever has recalled three of its Slim-Fast bar products in the US due to the possibility of them containing peanuts, which are being recalled by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). The recall was ordered by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recently and includes the Optima caramel crispy peanut meal on-the-go bars and the Meal Options breakfast&lunch bars - Dutch chocolate and peanut butter flavours.

The Optima bars are sold in boxes of six. Slim-Fast is urging any consumers who have any of the three affected Slim-Fast bar products to discard them. The company said no other Slim-Fast products, shakes or bars have been affected by the recall. This is the latest of a number of recalls to take place across the US recently as a precaution over the salmonella outbreak. To date, some 637 people in 43 US states have been infected with the outbreak, which has been traced to a PCA plant in Blakely. Nine deaths have also been linked to the outbreak.
