Boeing offers union 9 percent wage increase

CHICAGO, Aug 26  - Boeing Co said on Tuesday it offered members of its largest labor union wage increases of 9 percent over three years, a move the company hopes will eliminate the threat of a strike.

The company said its second contract proposal to the International Association of Machinists increases the basic pension benefit to $78 per month for each year of credited service. The union, which represents the 27,000 workers, called Boeing's previous offer "insulting."
