BEIJING -- China's Finance Minister Xie Xuren will attend the annual E.U.-China Summit to be held in December in France, Dalia Grybauskaite, a member of the European Commission, said Friday.
Grybauskaite, who is responsible for financial programming and budget for the European Union and is in Beijing this week to exchange views with Chinese counterparts about budget and financial policy issues, said China and the E.U. will discuss issues related to the global financial crisis at the summit. She said the two sides will also talk about coordination, without elaborating.
The annual summit is a ministerial-level affair. It was last held in November 2007 in Beijing, led by China Premier Wen Jiabao, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Prime Minister Jose Socrates of Portugal, who at the time held the rotating presidency of the 27-nation E.U. group.
A press officer representing the E.U. in Beijing said this year's summit will be held Dec. 1 in Lyons. France currently holds the rotating E.U. presidency.
