Oct. 31, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Toyota Motor Corp's joint venture in China is reportedly recalling 83,406 units of defective Corolla and Vios sedans, according to a statement released by China's General Administration of Quality Supervision. According to the statement, 43,662 units of the Corolla model, manufactured by Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd, Toyota's venture with FAW Group Corp, between May. 17, 2007, and Jun. 10 2008, will be recalled to fix faulty manual transmissions. Meanwhile, 31,104 units of Corolla EX and, which were produced between Jun. 1, 2007, and Jun. 10, 2008, will be recalled as well. The automaker is also recalling 8,640 units of Vios made between Feb. 14, and Jun. 10 this year. The vehicles are being recalled because parts in the manual transmission could come loose when the gear is shifted, the statement said, without giving any information on whether any casualties or injuries has been caused due to the defect.
