Large cell phone production base launched in Jiaxing

Nov. 5, 2008 (China Knowledge) - The largest cell phone manufacturing base of the Yangtze River Delta has been put into operation in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province on Nov. 2, the official Xinhua News reported on Tuesday.

The new base, named Wentai Cell Phone Industrial Base, is located in the Jiaxing Science Park and will produce 3 million cell phones per year with an annual output value of RMB 10 billion.

With an investment of US$70 million, the new base houses many cell phone companies specializing in R&D, design and manufacturing in a bid to form a complete industrial chain within the base. GPRS cell phones priced at RMB 100 each has been set as the key development area for the base.

The new base marks a new phase for the communication industry in Jiaxing and will expedite the development of telecom cluster in the region as well as the industry restructure.
