Government Says Yes for Yantai Wanhua Isocyanate Project

PUdaily, Shanghai - Chinese polyurethane suppliers Yantai Wanhua Polyurethane Co. Ltd will spend 13.2 billion yuan on an extensive isocyanate project, which includes building a 600ktpa MDI and 300 TDI plant in the Lingang Industry Park in the Yantai Economic Development Zone, Shandong Province.

The project, which involves eventual closure of its existing 200ktpa MDI plant at Yantai Zhifu Zone, has been give the OK by China' National Development and Reform Commission. The approval is for an integrated project covering 215.727 hectares and includes facilities for chlorine, aniline, caustic soda, and nitric acid, among others (see below).

The Chinese group has already announced plans to push its MDI capacity to 800ktpa, adding a 300ktpa unit at Ningbo to its first 250ktpa plant there.
Yantai Wanhua said in its 14 Dec announcement that it “decide to build these plants at the new production site in order to strengthen its competitive ability.

The project also covers:

300ktpa caustic soda;
240ktpa formaldehyde;
540ktpa nitric acid;
180ktpa synthetic ammonia;
480nitrobenzene facility;
360ktpa aniline facility;
480ktpa hydrogen chloride oxidation to produce chlorine; and
15200cu.m/h gasification facility and 70000cu.m/h air-separation facility.
