Nissan Motor Co. is developing a new generation battery that will be lighter and cheaper, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said October 19.
The company wants to control costs and production by controlling battery development. "If you want to be in control of the cost, you'd better be involved," Ghosn said. He added that Nissan's batteries will be "an important profit center" in the future.
The future plant will be built in Smyrna, Tenn. with a production capacity of 200,000 batteries a year.
