INTERVIEW-Kyocera says solar panel orders in Japan strong

Published: 18 Jun 2009 22:04:57 PST

TOKYO, June 19 - Japan's Kyocera Corp, the world's sixth-biggest maker of solar panels, expects strong panel demand in Japan this year thanks to the revival of state subsidies.

"There's a strong tailwind in Japan thanks to government subsidies and plans for the implentation of the feed-in tariff," Kyocera President Tetsuo Kuba said in an interview with Reuters. "This year is completely different."

Kyocera logged 50 percent growth in the year to April in the number of orders received for solar panels for households, a spokesman said.
