Feb. 5, 2010 (China Knowledge) - Urumchi Economic and Technological Development Zone, located in the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, will focus on developing the equipment manufacturing industry, with an emphasis on wind power equipment, in the hope of becoming the country's biggest wind power equipment base.

Ma Chunlei, secretary of Economy and Trade Development Bureau of the zone, said the new base will help Xinjiang attract more groups and capital for this industry.

Reportedly, UETDZ, founded in Aug 1994, realized a gross domestic production of RMB 10.24 billion last year. In 2005, Goldwind Science and Technology Co Ltd<002202> moved to the zone. Well-known companies such as Elm Corp from Denmark are part of Xinjiang's complete wind power equipment industry chain.
