Jan. 22, 2010 (China Knowledge) - China Mobile Ltd<0941><CHL>, the country's largest telecom operator, will build around 80,000 TD base stations this year and its 3G network will cover all Chinese cities, said Li Yue, vice president of the Chinese carrier, at a forum recently. The company has invested over RMB 80 billion in the construction of 3G network in the country. Currently, China Mobile has 100,000 base stations across the country, and 238, or 70% of prefecture-level cities nationwide have TD-SCDMA coverage. The number of China Mobile's 3G subscribers has exceeded 5 million so far and it is expected that it will hit the target of 50 million TD-SCDMA users by the end of this year.
