Jan. 20, 2010 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based Acer Inc, the world's third-largest PC brand, aims to take the largest share in the global PC market by 2012, Taiwan's Economic Daily reported on Wednesday, citing Chairman Wang Jeng-tang and President Gianfranco Lanci as saying. Acer currently holds 13% of the global PC market, following market leader Hewlett-Packard Co, which owns a 19.3% share, according to sources. Acer earlier said its fourth-quarter notebook PC shipments were expected to grow 10% from the previous quarter, and it aimed to ship 40 million notebook PCs in 2010. The company was estimated to have shipped about 33 million to 34 million notebook PCs last year. Acer previously predicted that its operating revenue will hit US$18 billion in 2009. The firm's operating revenue reached a record high of NT$167.6 billon in the third quarter, reflecting a 5.3% year-on-year increase. Net profit was NT$3.47 billion during the period.
