Dec. 8, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Chinese supercomputer manufacturer Dawning Information Industry Co Ltd will jointly invest RMB 50 million with the Chengdu municipal government to set up China's second-largest supercomputer center in Chengdu High-Tech Zone by the end of this year. The Dawning 5000A, China's first computer capable of executing 100 trillion floating-point operations per second, was installed in the Shanghai Supercomputer Center in September 2008. Since then, supercomputer and cloud computing projects have been launched all over China. Dawning President Li Jun yesterday confirmed that the company has signed an agreement of cooperation regarding the establishment of the center. He also said the Dawning 6000A, a supercomputer equipped with the domestically-designed Godson-3 processor, which can do more than 1 quadrillion calculations per second, will be released in 2011.
