French reading festival

Published: 22 Nov 2009 08:02:01 PST

The annual Lire en Fête Reading Festival, organized by the French Embassy in China, will pay tribute to detective novels this year from December 4-10 in four major cities including Beijing, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Wuhan.

The festival includes a roundtable conference on detective literature with French writers Franck Thilliez, Dominique Sylvain and Chinese authors He Jiahong and Lan Ma all scheduled to attend.

Aside from the conference, lectures, workshops and movies will also be held to uncover the hidden secrets of detective novel and thrillers, the events are all free and open to the public. On December 6, as a highlight of the festival, the much-anticipated first Fu Lei Translation Award will be presented at Peking University to honor the best French to Chinese translations of the year, with a bonus of 8,000 euros ($11,888) for the translator and the publishing house.
