The State Council recently formally approved the amalgamation plan of Tianjin Binhai New District and a meeting was held Monday in Tianjin to start rolling out the plan.
The new plan will merge the three districts of Tanggu, Hangu and Dagang in Tianjin into Binhai New District, making it a new administrative district by dissolving the current management system of three areas.
The administrative system of Binhai New District will be simplified, as the central government of Binhai New District has governing rights instead of the previous smaller areas. The number of administrative staff will be smaller than the three combined.
After the amalgamation, two detached offices of the district committee and district government of the Binhai New District will be set up, with one mainly in charge of social management and the other for economic management.
When the amalgamation is completed, Binhai New District will have more say with the Tianjin Municipal Government All issues directly related to the district can be decided by the government of the New District. Additionally, all projects that Binhai New District file to the State will not need to approval from the municipal government of Tianjin, and instead can go directly to the State.
