Nov. 4, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Ford Motor Co, the world's fifth-largest auto maker in terms of vehicle sales worldwide, said on Tuesday that its joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co<000625><200625> sold 20,027 passenger cars in October, representing a robust growth of 80% from a year ago. In the first ten months, the JV sold 188,244 passenger cars, 40% more than the same period of last year, said the company, without providing any comparable figures. In the first nine months of the year, full-catalog sales at the JV rose 43% year on year to 227,839 vehicles. Nigel Harris, general manager of Changan Ford, said that strong sales momentum will last to the end of the year, thanks to demand from Chinese consumers. Last month, U.S.-based Ford revealed a plan to invest RMB 3.34 billion in its third China assembly plant in Chongqing to produce its next generation Focus compact.
