Oct. 28, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Tenpay, an online payment service operated by China's Tencent Holdings Ltd<0700>, has signed a contract with China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd<600050><0762><CHU>, the country's second-largest telecom operator, to provide online payment services, sources reported. Under the terms of the contract, the carrier's users can use Tenpay to recharge their phones via China Unicom's online service center and apply for China Unicom's online value-added services. They can also buy prepaid cards, mobile handsets and 3G data cards from the carrier's online store. Tencent's Tenpay handled EUR 2.53 billion worth of transactions in the second quarter of 2009. China Unicom will also use Tenpay's e-billing services to handle payments between online service centers and provincial divisions. China Unicom is also teaming up with Alipay.com, a Chinese online payment service provider under the Alibaba Group, and YeePay, China's leading e-payment service provider.
