House of Representatives passes proposal praising Chinese entrepreneur's US contributions

The US House of Representatives passed a proposal to praise Chinese enterpriser Wei Jiafu's contribution to the country's economy recently, saying that he was the real "folk ambassador" at the bottom of the American people's hearts.

Wei Jiafu is president of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co. (COSCO), China's largest and the world's leading company specializing in global shipping, modern logistics, and ship building and repairing.

This proposal will be recorded in the archives of the House of Representatives and will become part of the country's history.

This is the first time that the US Congress commends a Chinese entrepreneur through a proposal.

The proposal was made by Stephen Lynch, a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts.

He said in his nomination that under Wei's leadership, the company became the first foreign shipping company in the US that reached the Department of Homeland Security's requirement for the transportation of ocean shipping. Also, Wei's company is a Chinese company that has employed the most local Americans, with praise from many ports, including Long Beach, Seattle, New York and Boston.

The proposal said that Wei promotes a good relationship between China and the US and he is the true "folk ambassador" at the bottom of the US people's hearts.

Wei gave an example when he was interviewed in Washington Monday. In 2000, world shipping giant AP Moeller-Maersk Group canceled its line at Boston port, which led to possible bankruptcy of the port. COSCO gave the port a timely hand by providing job opportunities to more than 16,000 workers at the port.

Wei disclosed that in the 1990s, no positive comments on COSCO could be found in American media, and US Congressman claimed that the company disturbed the order of the country's shipping market, but COSCO has proven itself over the years.
