China's power output up 9.5% in Sep

Oct. 26, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's power generation increased 9.5% year on year to 320.3 billion kWh in September, according to statistics released by the National Bureaus of Statistics on Thursday.

The September growth is the highest within the last 16 months as a result of the low base figure of last year.

The power output last month fell 7% compared with that of August when the country produced 344.3 billion kWh of electricity. Power output grew 9.3% from a year earlier in August.

The NBS said that the output of thermal power increased 12.3% year on year in September, while that of hydropower declined 3.7% year on year. There was a 12% increase in the production of nuclear power.

In the first nine months of this year, the country's power output edged up 1.9% year on year.

The nation's power use reached 322.41 billion kWh last month, up 10.24% year on year. The growth was 2 percentage points more than that of August, according to an earlier report from China Knowledge.
