Oct. 23, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Britain's Barclays Bank Plc recently raised its shareholding in China's BYD Co Ltd<1211> to 5.41% from the previous 1.33%, according to the bourse operator Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing<0388>. Information from HKEx showed that Barclays on Oct. 16 bought 32.33 million shares of BYD for a total of HK$2.63 billion. The average share price of the transaction was HK$78.15 apiece. Shenzhen-based BYD is the country's largest rechargeable battery maker and a well-known automobile producer. Chairman Wang Chuanfu tops the latest annual Hurun Rich List of China's richest people, thanks to investment by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett. Shares of BYD rose 1.03% to end at HK$83.6 yesterday.
