Oct. 23, 2009 (China Knowledge) - BYD Co<1211>, China's largest rechargeable battery maker and a well-known automobile producer, on Wednesday launched a BYD showroom in oil- and gas-rich Qatar, sources reported. BYD's cars are now available in the country and are distributed by Taj Qatar Automobiles, the exclusive dealers of BYD in the nation. The company has already imported 100 cars, and another 1,200 cars will arrive within one month. BYD has become one of the most-sold car brands in the Gulf region due to the elegant appearance and reasonable price of the cars, sources said. Taj Qatar Auto will also introduce three other Chinese auto brands into the country. Shenzhen-based BYD sold a record 44,000 vehicles last month, 88% more than in September 2008. During the first nine months of this year, BYD sold approximately 300,000 vehicles, accounting for 75% of the company's full-year sales target for 2009. BYD expects to sell 400,000 units this year since the firm is striving to expand its output capacity. The auto maker also expects to see annual sales exceed 10 million units by 2025.
