Oct. 23, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based AU Optronics Corp, the world's third-largest LCD maker by revenue, said its net profit attributable to equity holders amounted to NT$7.42 billion in the third quarter of this year, compared with NT$860 million a year earlier, with earnings per share standing at NT$0.84, sources reported. According to the company's latest financial results, the firm's consolidated revenue in the third quarter rose to NT$111.2 billion, up 7% from NT$104.07 billion, or up 35% compared with the second quarter of this year. During the first nine months of this year, AUO reported consolidated revenues of NT$244.5 billion and net loss of NT$19.4 billion. In the third quarter of 2009, AUO's shipment of large-sized panels hit a record high of 26.7 million units, up 19.2% quarter on quarter, while small- and medium-sized panel shipments reached 64.8 million units, up 6.5% compared with the previous quarter. AUO plans to build a new LCD panel plant in mainland China as it expects China to become the world's biggest TV consumer in two to three years, China Knowledge reported earlier.
