Oct. 22, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, the world's largest electronics company, will increase the number of its research and development staff in China to 5,000 in 2010, said Chief Technology Officer Li Xianghuan, sources reported. The company's China R&D staff has increased to 3,700 in 2009 from the previous 1,300. In the meantime, the number of its R&D institutes in the country has risen to 24 from the 18 at the end of 2004, according to sources. The Korean electronic giant plans to invest US$200 million in R&D in China next year, which is expected to become Samsung's second R&D base, said the company. In May, Samsung Group began construction of a US$10.5-million research institute in Tianjin City, one of the four municipalities in China, in order to test its products and components against international safety certification standards for electromagnetic compatibility and electromagnetic interference, China Knowledge reported earlier.
