Xinhua Bookstore, well known in China opened its first outlet in north London on Tuesday. It is also the first bookstore in Europe selling books from the Chinese mainland.
The store mainly sells Chinese books and,journals, English books on China, audio and video products, as well as traditional Chinese stationary, chess, calligraphy and paintings.
Xinhua Bookstore is managed by the China Publishing Group from 2003, and owns the largest chain of bookstores in China.
Wu Jiangjiang, president of the China National Publications Import & Export Corporation, said at the opening ceremony that, Xinhua Bookstore (London) aims to bring more Chinese books to UK readers, help them know more about Chinese culture and society, and then develop the copyright trade, cultural exchange and friendship between the two countries.
Wouter Schuitemaker, head of Asia-Pacific of Think London Group, told reporters, they"have lots of interests of the publishing community in China."
