Oct. 21, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Chunghwa Telecom Co Ltd, the largest telecom and Internet services provider in Taiwan, will sign a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft Corp to develop cloud computing-based applications, a Taiwan-based newspaper reported on Monday, citing an unnamed source as saying. The cloud computing-based applications will allow users to access computer services and store data via the Internet, for personal computers, handsets and e-books, the Commercial Times reported yesterday. The newspaper also said that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will meet Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Shyue-Ching Lu in Taiwan next month but did not disclose when the two companies will sign the MOU. In the first six months of this year, Chunghwa Telecom posted revenues of NT$90.37 billion, down 3.2% from a year earlier. It also lowered its pre-tax profit forecast for the third quarter to NT$11.79 billion, far less than the NT$17.28 billion in the same period of last year. Copyright © 2009 www.chinaknowledge.com |
