Suntech Power signs MOU with Pakistan

Oct. 19, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Suntech Power Holdings Co Ltd<STP>, which is the largest Chinese solar-cell maker by market value and is based in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan’s Alternative Energy Development Board to provide a series of solar energy services, sources reported.

According to the MOU, the Nasdaq-listed firm will provide solar modules, photovoltaic system techniques, and coaching services to address the energy shortage in Pakistan. The deal will benefit the development board's Rural Electrification Program as well as a pumping systems program developed by the board in conjunction with the World Bank and telecom projects undertaken in conjunction with local telecom companies.

Shi Zhengrong, chairman and CEO of Suntech Power, said that they are proud to cooperate with AEDB on photovoltaic projects in Pakistan.

Masood Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to China, said he believes Suntech Power can provide reliable, sustainable solutions that will improve the Pakistani solar energy system.
