
Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. (SVW) announced Thursday it has produced 5 million vehicles since its establishment in 1984.
The joint venture company between Volkswagen Group and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) took 13 years to make 1 million vehicles. In June 2006, SVW's 2 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line; Another 1 million units were produced by July 2005 to a total of 3 million units. Two-and-a-half years later, SVW made its 4 millionth car.
SVW has two production bases now in Shanghai and Nanjing, including four integrated automobiles assembly plants, one engine plant, a technology development center and a mold center. The annual production capacity of SVW has reaches 660,000 units.
