Oct. 7, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Sinohydro Corp, China's leading dam builder, on Monday signed a contract with Ecuador to build a hydropower plant on the Amazon River near the capital city of Quito, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The plant, named Coca Codo Sinclair, will have a total capacity of 1,500 megawatts. A contract for 85% of the financing will be signed with the Export-Import Bank of China next month. The Ecuadorian government will finance the remaining amount. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said the project will create about 4,000 direct jobs in Ecuador. Sinohydro last month held a ceremony for the completion of the second phase of a hydropower project in Saravan Province, Laos. Copyright © 2009 www.chinaknowledge.com |
