Sep. 25, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Kunshan Export Processing Zone, China's first export processing zone in East China's Jiangsu Province, saw its export value reach US$16.53 billion in the first eight months of this year, according to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs on Wednesday. The figure reflects a 9.3% rise compared with the same period of last year. During the period from January to August, the zone's exports and imports climbed 2% from a year earlier to US$23 billion. Kunshan EPZ, which covers 1.86 sq km, has become the world's largest laptop production base and one of China's largest bases for the production of electronic materials after more than eight years of development. In 2009, the zone is expected to produce 60 million laptops, accounting for 50% of the world's total annual production, and 15 million digital cameras, about one eighth of the world's total, said the GAC. China currently has 60 EPZs in operation, according to the website of the China Free Trade Export Association. Copyright © 2009 www.chinaknowledge.com |
