Sep. 24, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Dongfeng Motor Co Ltd, a joint venture between China's Dongfeng Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co, plans to set up three new plants in China from 2009 to 2010, sources reported. The company will invest RMB 6.5 billion in the three plants in Guangzhou, Shiyan, and Zhengzhou, which are expected to boost its production capacity and help it meet its 2012 sales target of 1 million vehicles ahead of schedule. In late August, Dongfeng Motor started building its second plant in Huadu, southern China's Guangdong province, to ease the output pressure. Japanese auto maker Nissan, which aims to maintain sustainable growth in the fast-growing Chinese market, will introduce its latest technologies to Dongfeng to support its Chinese partner. In the first eight months of the year, Dongfeng Motor sold 562,000 vehicles, representing a year-on-year growth of 16%. Passenger car sales rose 47% to nearly 350,000 units.
