Sep. 23, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Telecom Corp Ltd<0728><CHA>, the nation's largest fixed-line operator, and EMC Corp yesterday jointly launched an online data back-up service for personal computer users, the Shanghai Daily reported.

The back-up service, which is based on the new E-Yun service, allows users to store information in China Telecom databases and restore it via the Internet if the information is lost or deleted by accident.

The service, which will be offered to more than 700 million users in six months, is a first for the domestic market, said the English-language newspaper.

China Telecom plans to launch handset-based back-up services in the next six months. It will also offer corporate users an online back-up service by the end of this year.

U.S.-based EMC is the world's biggest storage technology firm.
