China wants talks with US on tire tariff dispute
Published: 14 Sep 2009 04:02:02 PSTChina has asked for talks with the US on the tire tariff issue according to the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement process, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Monday.
The US government's decision to impose special tariff on tire imports from China violated the WTO rules and was an abuse of trade remedy measures, MOC spokesman Yao Jian said.
"China's requirement for talks with the US is proper practice to exercise its rights as a WTO member and is a practical move to defend its own interests," he said.
