Boeing says China to make 40% of Asia's commercial jet orders

Sep. 10, 2009 (China Knowledge) - U.S.-based Boeing Co, the world's leading aircraft maker, expects that China will account for about 40% of its commercial jet orders from Asia over the next 20 years, a company senior executive said on Wednesday, sources reported.

Asian countries are likely to order as many as 8,960 aircraft from Boeing, Randy Tinseth, Boeing's vice president of marketing for its commercial aircraft division, said on the sidelines of the Asian Aerospace conference.

The domestic passenger market in China, the world's most dynamic aviation market, is expected to grow 8.6% annually between 2009 and 2028, faster than any other market, Tinseth added.

It has been predicted that the annual growth rate of the aviation industry in China will hit 7.9%, exceeding the 5% growth rate in the global market, China Knowledge reported earlier.

In less than ten years, the Asia-Pacific region may overtake North America to become the world's largest air travel market. The market in North America is expected to grow at 6.9% per year.

However, based on market conditions, domestic carriers in China have decided to delay the delivery of new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, Boeing China President David Wang said earlier this week.
