China's online travel reservation business grows 8.5% in Q2

Aug. 18, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's online travel reservation market generated revenue of RMB 840 million in the second quarter of this year, according to statistics from Enfodesk, an industrial database provided by Analysys International.

The figure reflects an 8.5% growth from the first quarter of this year and a 13% increase from a year earlier.

Online travel reservations increased in China despite many unfavorable factors, including the outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus beginning in April and the global financial crisis, which hit the international market very hard.

The growth in China's market is mainly attributable to favorable factors such as the start of the busy travel season in May, the increase in trade volume caused by air ticket prices made cheaper by fuel tax exemptions in the first quarter, and the active cooperation between travel providers and hotels, according to a survey released by Analysys International.

Beijing-based Analysys International is a leading provider of information on the technology, media and telecom industries in China, and provides data, information and advice to 50,000 clients in 1,500 distinct organizations around the world.
