Aug. 12, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Dell Inc and Taiwan-based Foxconn International Holdings Ltd may jointly produce a smartphone to be offered by China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd<600050><0762><CHU>, the country's second largest telecom operator, sources reported. Dell decided to bring its smartphone to China after telecom operators in the U.S. and Europe declined to accept it, said sources. Dell did not comment on the report but said the launch of a wireless handset product could be part of its long-term consumer strategy. Previous reports said that Dell would cooperate with China Mobile Ltd<0941><CHL>, the country's largest telecom operator, to launch two smartphones, one with a QWERTY keyboard and one with a touch screen, both using China Mobile's Open Mobile System and Google's Android OS.
