Aug. 12, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Citigroup on Tuesday announced that it has appointed Minggao Shen as chief economist for Greater China, a newly created position in the bank. Johanna Chua, chief economist for Citi Asia-Pacific, said that Shen, who will be based in Hong Kong, will take on macroeconomic analysis and research with a primary focus on mainland China and will also work closely with local teams in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Shen was Citi senior China economist from September 2005 to July 2008. After leaving Citi, Shen joined Caijing, a leading Chinese-language political and business magazine, as chief economist. As chief economist, Shen led a team of researchers to strengthen the magazine's macroeconomic coverage and helped it launch several weekly economic research newsletters. Shen holds a MA in international development policy and a PhD in economics, both from Stanford University. He was an associate professor at the China Centre for Economic Research at Peking University, where he specialized in development economics. Copyright © 2009 www.chinaknowledge.com |
