Aug. 11, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Hong Kong stocks rose on Tuesday. The Hang Seng Index, the benchmark, opened 155 points lower at 20,775. After touching the intraday low of 20,733.34 points, the blue-chip Hang Seng Index rose 144.69 points or 0.69% to close at 21,074.21. Mainboard turnover rose to HK$65.67 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprise Index, which tracks the overall performance of 43 Chinese mainland state-owned enterprises on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, swelled 87.14 points or 0.73% to 11,988.79 points. Market heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc<0005><HBC>, which accounts for the largest weighting for the Hang Seng Index, decreased 0.46% to HK$86. Pharmaceutical stocks ended mixed. China Pharmaceutical Group Ltd<1093> rose 0.23% to HK$4.4. The United Laboratories International Holdings Ltd<3933> ended flat at HK$3.1. Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Co Ltd<600332><0874> slid 1% to HK$3.98. China Shineway Pharmaceutical Group Ltd<2877> increased 0.41% to HK$7.41. Shandong Luoxin Pharmacy Stock Co Ltd<8058> rose 1.33% to HK$3.8. Airline stocks were decliners. Air China Ltd<601111><0753> fell 0.44% to HK$4.55. China Eastern Airlines Co Ltd<600115><0670><CEA> went down 1.22% and closed at HK$2.44. China Southern Airlines Ltd<600029><1055><ZNH> slipped 1.07% to HK$2.78.
