Jul. 29, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Logistics giant DHL on Monday launched a domestic transportation hub in Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei Province, the Shanghai Daily reported. The 3,080-square meter transportation hub, which will be operated by DHL Supply Chain, is located in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone. The new hub will operate around the clock to provide the company with superior infrastructure to serve existing customers mostly in the strong automotive and hi-tech industries in Wuhan, said Martin Rowe, vice president for transportation and distribution at DHL Supply Chain China. The opening of the new facility follows last month's launch of a road distribution hub in Wuhan. DHL last month also opened a new regional hub in Shanghai as part of its US$25 million program to strengthen its expertise in road transportation and distribution in China and to tap into the country's domestic growth. DHL operates four other regional hubs and fifteen sub-regional hubs in mainland China. China's road transportation revenue jumped 66% to US$25 billion in 2007 from US$15 billion in 1998. It is expected to grow by 7.1% annually and hit US$36 billion by 2013.
