Jul. 24, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based ProMOS Technologies Inc has terminated its cooperation with South Korean firm Hynix Semiconductor Inc on 50-nanometer technology for making PC memory chips, said the latter firm on Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported. The termination of the cooperation will free up production capacity, said ProMOS spokesman Ben Tseng. The cooperation enabled ProMOS to use Hynix's 50-nanometer technology to produce PC memory chips at an advanced plant in exchange for 50% of the output of the plant. The cash-strapped Taiwanese firm was badly impacted by the economic recession and could not migrate to 50-nanometer technology. The technological collaboration, which began last year, was originally intended to last until 2013. Copyright © 2009 www.chinaknowledge.com |
