Jul. 7, 2009 (China Knowledge) - PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Co, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), has announced that the natural gas output in Tarim Basin is expected to hit 50 billion cubic meters (cu m) in 2020 because new gas fields were found in the past few months, according to General Manager Wang Zhaoming.

PetroChina Tarim Oilfield, located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, last year produced 17.4 billion cu m of gas. It aims to yield more than 30 billion cu m in 2015 and 40 billion cu m in 2018.

Tarim Basin currently has five large gas fields, four of which have transferred a total of 52.8 billion cu m of gas to China's eastern area since 2004.

Tarim Basin's largest gas field, which is also the largest gas condensate field in China, just went into operation on Jun. 28. The gas condensate field facilities, which started construction on Mar. 26, 2008, can process an estimated 5 billion cu m of gas and produce an estimated 4.56 million tons of oil and gas per year, sources reported.
