Jun. 17, 2009 (China Knowledge) - HP Labs, the central research arm of Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced that it will award 60 academic research projects at 46 universities in 12 countries and regions. The awards are part of the company's Innovation Research Program and those award winners, including researchers from Peking University and Tsinghua University in China, will work together with HP's R&D staff on intelligent infrastructure and cloud computing projects this year, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The move is in line with HP's intention to deepen collaboration with the world's leading universities and will allow the company to tap the brightest minds to solve the most challenging technical problems. HP provides awards with funding up to US$100,000 to each academic institution. The number of the newly funded projects this year rose over 30% compared with that of a year ago. HP launched its 3G netbook HP Mini 110 in China last month. The product is based on TD-SCDMA network developed by China Mobile Ltd<0941><CHL>, the country's largest telecom operator. The company hopes to increase its market share in China by launching more lower-cost product models and expanding its sales channels in second-tier cities and rural areas.
