Jun. 17, 2009 (China Knowledge) - The computer giant International Business Machines Corp recently inaugurated a rail innovation centre in Beijing, China, hoping to benefit from the country's RMB 5-billion spending in the sector, Reuters reported. The centre will research rail-related products and services both for China and for the international market, said Keith Dierkx, the director of the Global Rail Innovation Centre. The company is cooperating closely with China's Ministry of Railways on projects involving system optimization, digital video surveillance and asset management. IBM will be well-placed to develop commercial opportunities as well. The Chinese government plans to spend US$731 billion to expand its railway network by 41,000 km before the end of 2020. In March, IBM said it will deploy high-speed rail projects in China, Taiwan and the Netherlands. The company will provide management, maintenance, logistics, and IT for the projects in mainland China and Taiwan. Copyright © 2009 www.chinaknowledge.com |
