Jun. 15, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA), the country's national airline, said on Friday it will start operating the Airbus A380 superjumbo on its Hong Kong route in July, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

SIA will operate daily A380 flights on its Hong Kong route beginning on Jul. 9, 2009. The new flights will replace the existing daily Boeing 777-300ER service to the city, carrying 10% more passengers to Hong Kong than before.

Hong Kong will be the fifth international destination and the second one in Asia to which SIA flies using the 471-seat A380 superjumbo aircraft.

The airline's CEO Huang Cheng Eng said in a statement that the company has confidence in the demand for both business and leisure travel between the two cities.

SIA currently operates five daily non-stop flights between Singapore and Hong Kong as well as daily non-stop services between Hong Kong and San Francisco.
