Jun. 3, 2009 (China Knowledge) - McDonald's Corp, the world's largest fast food restaurant chain, will continue to develop innovative products for the Chinese market and plans to launch 15 new products in 2009, the China Daily reported, citing a top official as saying. Today the company launches its first new product in the country this year, the newly developed coffee McCafe, which is made from Arabica coffee beans. The coffee is being sold in selected Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuhan. McDonald's will not cut investments in research and development (R&D) programs in China despite the gloomy fast food industry which was hit severely by the global financial crisis, said Kenneth Chan, CEO of McDonald's China, adding that the company this year will mainly focus on its Super Value program to boost local consumption. The company's R&D center in Hong Kong is the second-largest of three McDonald's centers worldwide. McDonald's has expanded its 24-hour delivery services to six more Chinese cities after a one-year trial in Shanghai as part of the company's efforts to lure more customers and offset losses caused by the economic downturn.
