Jun. 3, 2009 (China Knowledge) - The Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA), the only state-level development zone in Beijing, recently announced the names of the top 23 high-level Chinese professionals returning from overseas.

The administrative committee of BDA also awarded nearly RMB 10 million to six people, including Han Zhenghe, Zhao Tong and Zhang Rujing, and nine enterprises, including Semiconductor Manufacturing (Beijing) International Corporation (SMIC) and Yundian Yingna Superconductive Cable Co Ltd (Beijing), as part of a trial policy aimed at encouraging and attracting high-level professionals to return from overseas to work or set up businesses in BDA.

BDA adopted the trial policy and set up the Beijing Overseas Scholars Center at the end of 2008 to attract more high-level professionals and grasp more opportunities in the global talent market.

The awards are the culmination of BDA's recent campaigns to attract highly-qualified overseas Chinese professionals and enterprises. BDA invited experts to help choose the winning candidates based on merit. Candidates of all nationalities and enterprises of all kinds were invited to apply for the award funds.

The administrators of BDA said encouraging overseas Chinese professionals to return to China and work in BDA is part of BDA's effort to further open up to the outside world and enhance international competitiveness as well as a way of tackling the global financial crisis and promoting scientific development.

Since its establishment seventeen years ago, BDA has been committed to systematizing its economic structure and enhancing its overall strength, and is now a key driver of the capital's economic growth.
