May. 29, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Travel International Investment Hong Kong<0308> expects occupancy at its Hong Kong hotels to drop 20% year on year amid fears of the H1N1 virus, the Standard reported.

Wan Chai Metropark Hotel's occupancy rate was 80% during this time last year. Occupancy was 50% right after the hotel reopened on May 8 after the week-long quarantine of a Mexican guest who was found to be infected with the virus.

China Travel executive Xu Muhan said that occupancy at its Wan Chai Metropark Hotel is now at 70% after it briefly suspended operations earlier this month.

Xu said that the company is in talks with the local government for compensation.

According to China Knowledge's earlier report, China Travel planned to build ten tourism and leisure bases in mainland China, in locations including Chengdu, Beijing and Hainan Province.

The company expects to seek business in Hong Kong, mainland China, and in the overseas tourism market. China Travel hopes to become the largest tourism conglomerate in China within the next three to five years.
