Guangdong to hold trade fair in June

May. 27, 2009 (China Knowledge) - South China's Guangdong Province will host a trade fair from Jun. 18 to Jun. 20 to help foreign-funded businesses weather the global economic slowdown, a provincial official said Monday.

The fair, the first of its kind, will provide about 2,500 international standard booths at no cost to exhibitors. The products to be exhibited are mainly daily necessities such as appliances, consumer electronics, toys, food, kitchenware, clothing and construction materials.

Meanwhile, the government will allocate RMB 5 million to provide important businessmen and specialty purchasers free accommodation for two or three days.

One of the two main highlights of the fair is that the government will arrange special activities to teach foreign companies about domestic selling policies, and the other is the one-stop business service center, said Wu Jun, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Foreign Trade Bureau.

So far, 1,147 foreign companies have signed up to attend. It is expected that the trade fair will attract 5,000 purchasers. Wal-Mart and Carrefour have shown interest.

The third day of the trade fair will be open to ordinary citizens.
