Exports of Electronics, IT products drop in Jan-Apr

May. 26, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Monday that the country's exports of electronics and information technology (IT) products dropped in the first four months of this year.

Exports of electronics and IT products declined 24.15% year on year to US$120.72 billion in the first four months of 2009, accounting for 35.8% of the country's total export value.

During the period from January to April, exports of computer products decreased 24.47% from the previous year to US$45.19 billion, while exports of communication products declined 14.7% to US$22.17 billion.

Computers, cell phones, LCD panels, color TVs, processors and controllers are among the most exported products. Exports of laptops were down 9.11% and reached US$17.46 billion, while exports of cell phones decreased 9.95% to US$10.26 billion.

Exports to China's three primary export destinations, Hong Kong SAR, the U.S. and Japan, stood at US$28.41 billion, US$24.49 billion and US$8.56 billion, down 25.41%, 16.9% and 23.61% year on year, respectively.

In the first four months of this year, imports of electronics and IT products declined 28.62% from a year earlier to US$80.97 billion, accounting for 30.9% of the country's total import value.

The total value of imports and exports of electronics and IT products stood at US$201.69 billion, indicating a year-on-year decline of 26.01%.
