Published: 25 May 2009 17:09:13 PST

May. 26, 2009 (Singapore)-Up-to-date ratings for over 200 Chinese industrial parks have been issued and made available online by China Knowledge, originator of the newly revised, ground-breaking industrial park rating system.

The unparalleled China Knowledge Rating System, which grades industrial parks on a scale from AAA to C, helps investors select from among a befuddling array of economic and technological development zones, high-tech parks, free trade zones and export-processing zones the most suitable industrial park for their particular industry, product or service.

Investors can now visit China Knowledge Online and see the industrial park ratings collected into a single, convenient list at
 http://www.chinaknowledge.com/Manufacturing/Introduction.aspx?subchap=4&content=21.

All web visitors can use the interactive map at China Knowledge Online: Manufacturing to focus on a geographical region of interest, then click for a list of links to descriptions and vital economic statistics for industrial parks in a particular province or municipality. Premium subscribers can access the valuable analysis of each industrial park.

The rating system is the culmination of years of original research collected by China Knowledge’s powerful research team via surveys, interviews, site visits, and independent sources including news reports, government data, and promotional materials. The data are comprehensive, rather than limited to a particular geographical region or industry. And now the 253 park ratings take into account the most recent improvements in infrastructure.

According to the updated analysis, the top ten industrial parks in China are the following:

1.    Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), which includes Tianjin Port Export Processing Zone
2.    Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone
3.    Guangzhou Development District, which includes Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Guangzhou High-tech Indsutrial Development Zone, Guangzhou Free Trade Zone and Guangzhou Export Processing Zone
4.    Shanghai Zhangjiang High-tech Park
5.    China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, which includes Suzhou Industrial Park Export Processing Zone
6.    Suzhou New District, which includes Suzhou New District Export Processing Zone
7.    Shanghai Jinqiao Export Processing Zone
8.    Kunshan Economical and Technological Development Zone
9.    Dalian Economic and Technological Development Zone
10.    Zhongguancun Science Park

The unique rating system assesses each individual industrial park quantitatively, with weight given to each of five main factors, which are then subdivided into smaller weighted factors as needed. The five main factors are the following:

•    macroeconomic performance of local area
•    level of development of the industrial park
•    local investment and operational costs
•    local skill levels and availability of human resources
•    quality of management and administration

Separate sets of weighted factors allow for obvious differences between research enterprises and manufacturing ones.

"We have consistently received positive feedback regarding the usefulness of our research on industrial parks," said Charles Chaw, managing director of China Knowledge. "We are uniquely positioned to offer a fine-tuned rating system and are confident that the new results will be well-received both by the international business community and by the industrial parks themselves."

The rating system, along with the first set of ratings, was originally released in 2003 in book form to guide foreign investors lacking detailed knowledge of potential locations for expansion. The latest edition, which will be called The Strategic Guide to Manufacturing, Outsourcing and R&D in China, will be available for purchase later this year.
