Introduction
Tianjin Zhongbei Industrial Park (Tianjin Zhongbei IP) was established by the Tianjin Municipal Government in 2006 and covers an area of 3 km2. It is a city-level park.
Tianjin Zhongbei IP is located in the Zhongbei Town of Xiqing District, 8 km southeast of the city center, 25 km from Tianjin Binhai International Airport, 40 km from Tianjin New Port and 120 km from Beijing. In 2007, the cargo throughput of Tianjin Binhai Airport and Tianjin Port ranked twelfth and fourth in China respectively.
The park is also easily accessible by land. Tianjin's under-planning second subway passes through the park. The nearest Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu expressway is within a 10-minute drive from the park. There are also other expressways leading to Shanghai, Baoding and Fuzhou.
Investment Climate
The park consists of five zones, namely, the eastern, western, southern, northern and Houtai zone. 2000-2400 m2 in both the northern and eastern zones, and 6000-25000 m2 in the eastern and Houtai zones have been dedicated to workshops.
The pillar industries of Zhongbei IP are automobiles and auto parts, electronics and information technology, and machinery. The value-added industrial output from these three sectors accounts for approximately 80% of Zhongbei Town's total. Presently, there are over 500 industrial companies in the park.
Tianjin Jinhe Electronics was a joint venture set up by FAW Xiali and Japan's Furukawa Electronics in 1996. Its major products include auto-used wire harnesses, fuse holders, relays and airbags. It is one of the largest airbag manufacturers in the world.
Tianjin Shuangxie Machinery is a major investor in the park's machinery field. Set up in 2002, it has invested RMB 200 million, realizing an annual production capacity of 140,000 chassis.
Zhongbei Town, where the park is located, is close to Nankai University - the most famous university in Tianjin. The university has an enrollment of 22,000, and its number of graduates accounts for 29.2% of Tianjin’s total.
In 2007, Tianjin's GDP reached RMB 501.8 billion, up 15.1% from the previous year. It ranked sixth in China after Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Suzhou. It is now the second-largest economy in Northern China after Beijing.
Tianjin also has a good education system. There were forty-five universities and technical schools in the city by the end of 2007, with a total enrollment of 371,100. Tianjin has three "211 Project" universities, namely, Nankai University, Tianjin University and Tianjin Medical University. The "211 Project" title refers to the top 108 universities in China established by the Ministry of Education.
